Logan Lerman is in talks to play newscaster Dan Rather in real life drama Newsflash, opposite Seth Rogen’s Walter Cronkite.
The film recounts the events of Nov. 22, 1963, as television news stations raced to report the facts of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in Texas. Producer Don Hewitt and boss Jim Aubrey will also be characters in the movie, along with Cronkite’s young co-worker Rather.
David Gordon Green (Stronger) is directing the drama from a script by Ben Jacoby.
Greg Silverman, the former Warner Bros. worldwide production head who recently launched Stampede Ventures, is producing with Adam Kolbrenner. Production is set to begin next spring.
Lerman’s screen credits include starring turns in the cult film The Perks of Being a Wallflower, David Ayer’s WWII drama Fury and Darren Aronofsky’s Noah. Next up is the mystery feature The Vanishing of Sidney Hall, which will be released by A24 next month.
He is repped by WME, Brillstein and Hirsch Wallerstein.
