Just as one Greta Gerwig film hits theaters, another begins to unveil itself.
Gerwig, who stars this month in Whit Stillman‘s film Damsels in Distress, also takes the lead in the upcoming Daryl Wein-directed comedy, Lola Versus. And while she plays a chaste college girl who cures depression with dancing in the former, the latter sees her try to work out of a failed engagement-induced funk with awkward sex, food and liquor.
So, two very different approaches.
The film also stars The Killing‘s Joel Kinnaman as her ex-fiance and Whitney co-star Zoe Lister Jones as her encouraging best friend. Searchlight is positioning the film as being in the tradition of another of their hit summer romances, 500 Days of Summer, which helped launch Zooey Deschanel into the mainstream.
