IFC Films has acquired U.S. rights to Derrick Borte’s London Town, which is having its world premiere Friday night in the World Fiction Competition at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
Written by Matthew Brown, the film stars Daniel Huttlestone as a 14-year-old English boy struggling with bullies and a broken home life. Inspired by The Clash, he becomes a young punk himself, meeting up with The Clash’s Joe Strummer, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The film also stars Dougray Scott, Natascha McElhone and Tom Hughes.
London Town was produced by Sofia Sondervan of Dutch Tilt Film, Christine Vachon of Killer Films and Tom Butterfield of Culmination Productions in association with Vandermolen Film Co. Executive producers are Vandermolen Film Co.’s Alastair Burlingham, Lee Vandermolen, Charlie Dombek, Angel Chen and Dennis Mykytyn; Head Gear’s Phil Hunt and Compton Ross; Luke Daniels, Jeff Rice, Matthew Lamothe, Aross N. Berman, Alex Cutler, Steve Knox, Brown and Scott Lochmus.
“Derrick Borte has crafted a film that is as vibrant and riotous as the time it depicts. We are very excited to bring the film to U.S. audiences and make the punk-rock era of the 1970s come alive once more,” said Jonathan Sehring, president of Sundance Selects and IFC Films.
The deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, senior vp acquisitions for Sundance Selects and IFC Films, with CAA and ICM Partners co-representing the deal on behalf of the filmmakers. Borte is repped by ICM Partners and Alan D. Sacks at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz. Brown is repped by CAA, Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and James Adams at Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams.
IFC Films is a sister label of Sundance Selects and IFC Midnight. It’s owned and operated by AMC Networks Inc.
