Louise Linton’s Me You Madness has been picked up for distribution in the U.K, France and French-speaking Europe, where ILY Films has acquired the film.
The campy comedy-thriller marks the directorial and writing debut of Linton, the wife of former U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. STX acquired U.S. rights to Me You Madness ahead of 2020’s virtual American Film Market, where Highland Film Group introduced the title to foreign buyers.
Linton stars in the film alongside Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), playing a glamorous sociopathic bisexual woman who lives a life of luxury in Malibu. When Tyler (Westwick), a petty thief, responds to her online roommate ad, he thinks he’s struck gold. What he doesn’t realize is that she is a serial killer who hunts down and kills men with crossbows, chainsaws, and kitchen knives … and that he might be her next meal.
“This film is a very self-aware, playful and colorful homage to the ’80s and to the films that inspired me such as Flash Dance, Footloose and Dirty Dancing,” said Linton. “It is glamorous and consummately willful in its decadent style and neon aesthetic. It is heavily driven with dance-along ’80s hits, choreography, fight sequences, and beautiful locations. My hope for this film is that it makes people laugh at a time when we could all use some more laughter in our lives.”
Richard Lechartier, CEO of ILY Films added: “As soon as our friends at HFG showed us Me You Madness we knew straight away we wanted it. It has all the ingredients: it is edgy, funny and romantic.”
ILY Films’ first U.K. release was Hard Kill, starring Bruce Willis and also acquired through Highland Film Group. The company also recently acquired the U.K. rights to Out of Death, the latest Willis movie, which will be released later this year, while in France, its next release is WWII film Enemy Lines starring Westwick.
