Disney is moving forward with a sequel to its live-action hit Maleficent, tapping Linda Woolverton to write the script.
Woolverton, who is in talks to pen the sequel, has become quite a major part of Disney’s live-action creation team. She wrote the script for the first Maleficent, which starred Angelina Jolie and earned a magical $758.4 million worldwide. She also wrote the script for the sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass, which stars Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway. And through the years she’s worked on some of Disney’s animated classics, including Beauty and the Beast (which also is being made into a live-action film starring Emma Watson), The Lion King and Mulan.
Jolie is expected to return for the Maleficent sequel, although a deal is not yet in place. The films center on the iconic villainess from the Sleeping Beauty animated film.
Woolverton is repped by WME.
