Courtesy of CFCTORONTO – Norman Jewison‘s Canadian Film Center has named mega-hit writer Marc Jordan as the new songwriting chair of its Slaight Family Music Lab.
The Toronto-based music residency aims at getting more Canadian composers and songwriters to follow Hollywood expats like Howard Shore and Mychael Danna into film scoring gigs in Los Angeles.
To do that, Jordan told The Hollywood Reporter he will bring homegrown music creators together with Hollywood A-listers to learn how best to combine film music and images during master classes and sound recording studio visits.
“The more there can be mentoring from here (Los Angeles), and up in Canada, the better. So I’m trying to connect some of my friends from the States, from here, and have them participate in some of the labs up in Canada,” Jordan explained.
His appointment was unveiled at a gala event in Beverly Hills on Wednesday night, attended by Jewison, CFC topper Slawko Klymkiw and music lab residents Matthew O’Halloran, Lodewijk Vos, Joseph Murray, Robyn Dell’Unto, Adaline, Rob Teehan and Erica Procunier.
The evening also saw Mad Men co-executive producer/writer Semi Chellas, a CFC graduate, honored with an award of excellence.
American-born, Toronto-raised Jordan has seen his lyrics sung by Rod Stewart with “Rhythms of the Heart,” Cher, Joe Cocker, Josh Groban and Bette Midler, and started his music career in Los Angeles with Warner Bros. Records and producer Gary Katz.
He also recorded and produced records for BMG and Atlantic Records, and has been signed to Warner/Chappell Music and Geffen Records.
His music film credits include Like Father, Like Son, The Slugger’s Wife, Never Talk to Strangers, Heavy Metal and Blown Away.
Jordan is currently working on a musical, Lulu the Acrobat, with his wife, Amy Sky, which is set to debut onstage in 2016.
