Margot Robbie is in final negotiations to join the high beta-carotene cast of Peter Rabbit, Sony’s live-action/CG hybrid adaptation of the children’s tale written by Beatrix Potter.
James Corden, Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, Daisy Ridley and Elizabeth Debicki are already on board the project, which is being directed by Will Gluck.
Peter Rabbit is being described as a modern interpretation of Potter’s works centering on the rivalry between mischievous young hopper Peter Rabbit and Mr. McGregor, a man trying to keep a rabbit-free garden.
Corden is voicing Peter Rabbit, while Gleeson is playing McGregor. Byrne is portraying a character named Bea, likely a stand-in for the author, Potter.
Details of Robbie’s role are being kept buried in garden, but it is known she will voice a bunny.
Gluck is producing Peter Rabbit with Zareh Nalbandian of Animal Logic Entertainment. Gluck also has been revising the latest draft of the script, which was written by Rob Lieber. Doug Belgrad is co-financing and executive producing through his 2.0 Entertainment banner.
Robbie had a busy 2016 with three major movies released: Suicide Squad, Legend of Tarzan and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. The Australian actress is just starting to broach the world of voice work, with Peter Rabbit being only her second such project. Her first voice acting gig is Larrikins, a DreamWorks Animation movie due out next year.
Robbie is repped by CAA, Management 360 and Jackoway Tyerman.
