Focus Features has pre-bought the world rights from FilmNation Entertainment to the feature directorial debut of Moore, who earned an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for The Imitation Game. The film will see Rylance play a Savile Row suit tailor in London who, after a personal tragedy, lands in inner-city Chicago, where he makes beautiful clothes for the only people around who can afford them — a family of vicious gangsters.
FilmNation and Focus Features partnered on the Carey Mulligan-starring drama Promising Young Woman. Moore will direct The Outfit, which FilmNation is financing, from his own screenplay co-written with actor and writer Johnathan McClain.
“If you’d told me years ago, when Johnathan and I were first dreaming up this story, that I’d get to direct my first film with a cast as exquisitely talented as Mark, Zoey, Dylan and Johnny, I’d have said you were nuts. And honestly, if you’d said that back then, you might have been. This film is such a deep labor of love for me and our whole team, and I could not ask for better partners than our friends at FilmNation and Focus,” director Moore said in a statement.
Production will kick off in March in London. The producer credits are shared by Scoop Wasserstein, Ben Browning and Amy Jackson. FilmNation and CAA Media Finance negotiated the distribution deal for The Outfit with Focus Features on behalf of the filmmaking team.
Moore is represented by CAA. McClain is represented by Innovative Artists and Trademark Talent. Wasserstein is represented by Sasha Levites of Frankfurt Kurnit, while Rylance is represented by CAA.
Deutch is represented by CAA and Management 360. O’Brien is represented by WME and Principal Entertainment. Flynn is represented by CAA, United Agents, and Management 360.
