Marvel Studios offered an exclusive look at the upcoming Captain Marvel during Monday’s college football National Championship game on ESPN.
The clip shows Brie Larson as the titular hero, Carol Danvers, a fighter pilot turned superhero, demonstrating to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury that she can handle herself amid an impending war.
“I’ve never seen anything like her,” Fury confesses to colleagues later on. The trailer also references the film’s period setting, the 1990s, as Fury tells Danvers, “Grunge is a good look on you.”
To show she’s not one of the shape-shifting, villainous Skrulls, Danvers shoots a photon blast to prove to a skeptical Fury she’s one of the good guys.
The new trailer also shows off a bit more of Jude Law’s role in the upcoming film as a Kree warrior.
Captain Marvel is directed by longtime collaborators Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who also wrote the screenplay with Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Jac Schaeffer. It drops into theaters on Mar. 8.
