A day after announcing a new Star Wars mini-series set during the movie’s prequel trilogy, Marvel Entertainment has unveiled another new Star Wars comic book project — this time, following up on two fan-favorite characters from last year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The one-off Star Wars: Rogue One — Cassian & K-2SO Special will take place prior to the events of the movie, and feature the first meeting between the undercover Rebel Alliance operative and the sarcastic former Imperial security droid, according to the publisher. The special issue will be written by Duane Swierczynski, making his Star Wars debut, with art by Fernando Blanco.
In a statement released by Marvel, Swierczynski said, “When I first heard about Rogue One, I was thrilled. A heist movie set in the Star Wars universe? Are you kidding? Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be invited to tell a small piece of that story. And it was even cooler that I was asked to write about the first meeting of Cassian and K-2SO — easily my two favorite characters in the movie. What can I say? I love bad-asses and robots.”
Cassian & K-2SO is the fourth spin-off from Rogue One to explore the pasts of the characters from the movie; each of the three prior — Catalyst, Rebel Rising and Guardians of the Whills — have been prose releases.
Star Wars: Rogue One — Cassian & K-2SO Special will be released in August.
