Chris Samnee/Marvel EntertainmentMarvel’s “man without fear” will soon be its “man without paper” with the news that writer Mark Waid will be finishing up his run on Daredevil in a new limited-run digital series, Daredevil: Road Warrior, that follows the final issue of the current print series next year.
It emerged last week that the critically-acclaimed current run of Daredevil by Waid and artist Chris Samnee would end with February’s 36th issue, with Waid saying at the time that the future for the character — who celebrates his 50th anniversary in 2014 — was “interesting. And quite unexpected and quite familiar at the same time.”

Today, part of that future was revealed with the publisher announcing that Waid and Daredevil will both be going digital for the next phase in the character’s life. “Matt’s beginning a whole new chapter in his life following the events of Daredevil#36, and he’s excited but apprehensive at the same time,” Waid told Marvel.com. “You can be a Man Without Fear and still be a little worried about where the next paycheck is coming from. Road Warrior is a coast-to-coast adventure/chase with thrills aplenty.”
The series, which will be illustrated by Waid’s long-term collaborator Peter Krause, will be Marvel’s third original series in the “Infinite Comics” format, following similar solo outings for Wolverine and Iron Man. Whether or not the switch from characters who have enjoyed some cinematic success to Daredevil says anything about that character’s future movie prospects remains to be seen.
