After audiences see Captain America: Civil War in theaters, Marvel Entertainment intends to make it as easy as possible for them to move onto its summer Civil War II comic book series, with the announcement on Friday that one of its two Free Comic Book Day releases will be a special Civil War II primer.
The issue will feature two stories, including a Civil War II story by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Jim Cheung, described by Marvel as “a snapshot of the conflict that will split the Marvel Universe in two!” (The main Civil War II series, by Bendis and artist David Marquez, was originally teased for spring but will now launch in June, Marvel told THR.)
The second story will be an All-New All-Different Avengers story by Mark Waid and artist Alan Davis that introduces a new version of the character the Wasp, ahead of that character’s cinematic debut in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp movie.
Details about the new incarnation of the character, teased earlier this week by a Marvel release with the text “Best Beware My Sting,” are being kept under wraps for now, with Marvel’s announcement asking, “Are they friend or foe? How will their coming impact on the lives of the All-New, All-Different Avengers? The answers may surprise you, True Believer!”
FCBD Civil War II No. 1 replaces the previously announced Avengers No. 1 on Marvel’s Free Comic Book Day schedule; a second title, with the working title Captain America No. 1, will also be released.
Free Comic Book Day 2016 is May 7, the day after Captain America: Civil War opens.
