Marvel’s Victoria Alonso to Receive Harold Lloyd Award

Marvel Studios’ executive producer and executive vp physical production Victoria Alonso has been tapped to receive the Advanced Imaging Society’s Harold Lloyd Award, which is presented to a filmmaker who in the judgment of the Society has created a body of work, and specific achievements in 3D, that advanced the motion picture art form. She’s the first woman to receive this honor, which will be presented Jan. 27 at the Society’s annual Creative Arts Awards, to be held at Warner Bros. Studios.

Alonso was executive producer on 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, as well as a string of Marvel hits including Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3.

“Victoria Alonso has inspired movie fans and her colleagues with a dedication to strong storytelling and brilliant technical achievement,” said Society awards chair Buzz Hays, founder of the True Image Company.

Alonso is currently executive producing Marvel’s upcoming feature films, including Joe and Anthony Russo’s Captain America: Civil War, Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange and James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Prior to her work at Marvel, she worked in visual effects production for films including Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven, Tim Burton’s Big Fish and Andrew Adamson’s Shrek.

Previous Harold Lloyd Award recipients include Jean Pierre-Jeunet, James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, Ang Lee and Jeffrey Katzenberg.

“Harold Lloyd helped create and advocated for the use of technical innovations to thrill movie audiences in more than 200 films here in Hollywood,” Suzanne Lloyd, chairman of Harold Lloyd Entertainment, said Wednesday in a statement. “As we celebrate the 100^th anniversary of Harold first stepping in front of the camera, I know he would be thrilled that this award, bearing his name, be presented to an artist of Victoria Alonso’s passion and achievement.”

The Creative Arts Awards honors work in 3D and advanced imaging, including the use of virtual reality and high dynamic range.
