The first trailer debuted during Sunday’s Emmys, and shows off a 1950s sitcom-inspired vibe with a dark twist, as Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) live their ideal suburban lives, but begin to suspect not everything is as it seems. Jac Schaeffer is head writer for the series, which is slated to debut later this year on Disney+.
WandaVision takes place after the death of Vision in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, with his death status referenced in the trailer.
Little else is known about the series’ plot, but in the comics, Scarlet Witch (Olsen) is among the Marvel Universe’s most powerful heroes and even once remade reality after a personal tragedy, as portrayed in the 2005 “House of M” storyline. It seems that some sort of reality shaping may be at play in the new series.
WandaVision is one of multiple Disney+ series in the works for Marvel, including Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which recently resumed filming after a coronavirus pandemic-related shutdown, and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.
More to come.
