Michael Bay is powering up his next projects.
Bay is set to direct 6 Underground from a script by Deadpool screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. The film, from Skydance Media, is expected to be released in summer 2019. Its plot details are being kept under wraps.
“Throughout his career, Michael Bay has been unparalleled in creating global theatrical events,” Skydance CEO David Ellison said Wednesday in a statement. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to have this amazing team come together, bringing their unique style and vision to the movie.”
Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce 6 Underground with Bay.
Though 6 Underground is shrouded in mystery, the project Bay intends to direct after that film isn’t.
Sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that Bay will also helm Robopocalypse, the long-in-the-works adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s best-selling 2011 novel. Steven Spielberg was long planning to direct the film, having announced his intentions for a big-budget adaptation in 2010 ahead of the book’s release, and Anne Hathaway and Chris Hemsworth at one time were attached to star before the project was postponed indefinitely in 2014. Wilson’s novel centers on humanity’s war against robots controlled by a powerful artificial intelligence. Spielberg, who worked with Bay on the Transformers series, is continuing on as a producer.
Bay’s most recent directorial effort was last summer’s Transformers: The Last Knight. He is repped by WME.
