Star Trek: Discovery star Michelle Yeoh has joined the high-caliber cast of Gunpowder Milkshake, an action thriller from StudioCanal and The Picture Company.
Navot Papushado, part of the duo behind the dark Israeli breakout Big Bad Wolves, is directing the project, which already has Avengers: Endgame’s Karen Gillan, Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey and Angela Bassett (Black Panther) and Billions headliner Paul Giamatti on the hit list as it heads toward a June 3 production start in Berlin.
Plot details are being kept in the shell casing but the script, which Papushado wrote with Ehud Lavski, is described as centering on a mother-daughter assassin duo played by Gillan and Headey.
Yeoh will play part of a sisterhood of secret arms dealers who come together to help Gillan’s character when things go south.
StudioCanal and The Picture Company Partners Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing. Aharon Keshales is exec producing.
StudioCanal will distribute the movie in the U.K., Australia, Germany and France, while selling rights to other territories. UTA is co-repping the US rights.
On Discovery, Yeoh plays Captain Philippa Georgiou, a member of a shadowy organization within the Federation. The character is popular enough that she is getting her own spinoff series with Yeoh on board to reprise the role. The veteran actress, who had a role in last year’s cross-cultural hit Crazy Rich Asians, will be seen in the upcoming Avatar sequels as well as Last Christmas, a rom-com that also stars Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding that Universal will release in December.
Yeoh is repped by Artist International Group.
