Millennium Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to the Jay Chandrasekhar-directed comedy The Babymakers. The film, which had its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in March, will receive a July 3 release on Ultra VOD followed by a platform theatrical release July 27.
Olivia Munn, Paul Schneider, Aisha Tyler, Kevin Heffernan, Wood Harris, Constance Zimmer, M.C. Gainey, Nat Faxon and Chandrasekhar star in the story of a man who recruits a group of friends to steal his old deposit from a sperm bank when he is unable to get his wife pregnant. Peter Gaulke and Gerry Swallow wrote the screenplay.
Jason Blum of Blumhouse, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Automatik and Chandrasekhar of Duck Attack produced. Alliance Films’ Charles Layton, IM Global’s Stuart Ford and Heffernan served as executive producers. Alliance and IM Global co-financed the movie.
“We’re thrilled to add Jay’s latest high-jinks comedy to our release slate,” said Millennium CEO Bill Lee. “Jay’s films have a rabid fan base, and The Babymakers features a stellar cast that delivers gut-busting performances.”
Millennium exec Tristen Tuckfield negotiated the deal with John Sloss and Kavanaugh-Jones on behalf of the filmmakers. IM Global’s genre sales arm Octane is handling international rights, with Alliance distributing in Canada, the U.K. and Spain.
Millennium Entertainment has recently released Intruders, Trespass, Rampart and High Road. Upcoming releases include Richard Linklater’s Bernie, A Little Bit of Heaven, Little Birds and Red Lights, which the company acquired out of the Sundance Film Festival in January.
