Millennium Entertainment has nabbed U.S. distribution rights to Welcome to Me, starring Kirsten Wiig.
Also starring Wes Bentley, Linda Cardellini and Joan Cusack, the film first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. The project, directed by Shira Piven from a screenplay by Eliot Laurence, centers on a fame-obsessed lottery winner named Alice (Wiig). She decides to spent her winnings on a TV show about herself.
A Bron Studios/Gary Sanchez Production, in association with Media House Capital, the film is produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Aaron L. Gilbert, Marina Grasic, Jessica Elbaum and Kristen Wiig.
Millennium is planing a 2015 release for the film, which THR described as “funny, dark, and riding a very fine line in its depiction of mental illness” in its review from Toronto.
Jason Resnick negotiated on behalf of Millennium, while UTA Independent Film Group and WME Global represented the filmmakers in the deal.
“In Welcome to Me, Shira Piven has crafted an inspired film that features Kristen Wiig in a brilliantly funny and moving role,” said Bill Lee, CEO of Millennium Entertainment. “We’re so pleased to be in business with this tremendous group of filmmakers and look forward to bringing this very special film to audiences.”
