The Museum of Modern Art will launch its eighth Contenders screening series on Nov. 10 with Christopher Abbott’s James White.
After the movie, Abbott, co-star Cynthia Nixon and writer-director Josh Mond will join Peter Travers for a Q&A as part of the New York Film Critics Series.
In the film, Abbott plays the titular hard-partying hedonist who is forced to change his ways as his mother grapples with a terminal illness. In his review of the movie, The Hollywood Reporter‘s David Rooney called it “a distinctive portrait of anger, pain and grief that unfolds simultaneously on and under the skin.”
Now in its eighth year, MoMA’s Contenders series features screenings of films that are likely to have lasting historical significance. The movies are selected by MoMA’s film curators, from major studio releases and top film festivals and represent the best of mainstream movies, independents, foreign-language films, documentaries and art-house selections.
