Orion Classics has acquired North American and Latin American rights to Jinn from writer-director Nijla Mu’min.
Jinn, which debuted at this year’s SXSW, follows Summer, a 17-year-old whose life takes a turn when her mother, a popular television meteorologist, makes the decision to convert to Islam. Summer finds herself having to navigate a new faith at the same time as her normal teenage tribulations.
Simone Missick (Luke Cage) stars with newcomer Zoe Renee and Sundance breakout Kelvin Harrison Jr. Dorian Missick, Hisham Tawfiq and Kelly Jenrette, who recently picked up an Emmy nomination for her role on The Handmaid’s Tale, also star.
Sweet Potato Pie Productions’ Avril Z. Speaks, Maya Emelle of Morgan’s Mark and Arielle Saturne produced.
Orion Classics, which was relaunched this year, most recently released the Kate Bosworth-starrer The Domestics. Jinn is set to hit theaters Nov. 15 and on VOD and Digital HD on Nov. 16.
