Nadia Bronson, who spent 25 years as a marketing executive at Universal Studios, died Friday following a battle with cancer. She was 67.
At Universal, Bronson oversaw the international campaigns of hundreds of films — including Jurassic Park, The Flintstones, Schindler’s List and Gladiator — with a combined overseas box office of more than $4 billion.
Bronson joined Universal in 1977 and rose through the ranks, being named president of international marketing in 1997. Three years later, she was promoted to president of international marketing, distribution and operations.
In 2000, The Hollywood Reporter placed her No. 11 on its list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Entertainment.
Bronson left the studio, then owned by Vivendi, in 2001 following the promotion of domestic marketing chief Marc Shmuger, who assumed some responsibility for international.
In May 2001, she formed the consultancy firm Nadia Bronson Associates to advise studios on their campaigns for the Academy Awards, BAFTAs and Golden Globes. Among the recent films to benefit from her guidance were 12 Years a Slave, Captain Phillips, Philomena, Saving Mr. Banks, Nebraska, Django Unchained and Silver Linings Playbook.
At the 2002 Cannes Film Festival, the native of France was awarded the country’s Officer in the Order of Arts and Letters cultural honor for “contributions that have illuminated culture in France and around the world.”
