Ahead of the much-anticipated Starz TV adaptation from Bryan Fuller, Neil Gaiman’s American Gods will be arriving in your local comic book store — and Heat Vision has an exclusive glimpse of what’s in store when Shadow Moon finds that freedom isn’t what he expected in the tale of Americana and mythical figures.
The comic book series — which will adapt Gaiman’s original novel into a projected 27 issues, split across three distinct arcs called Shadows, My Ainsel and The Moment of the Storm — comes from some pretty mythical talents in their own right: P. Craig Russell, who’s collaborated with the likes of Gaiman and Michael Moorcock, will adapt the story for comics, while Scott Hampton, who’s worked on The Books of Magic, Hellboy and Batman projects in the past, illustrates the bulk of the interiors.
Moorcock’s not handling the interior artwork alone, however; already on tap for special sequences are Fables‘ Mark Buckingham, Thor‘s Walt Simonson and Sandman‘s Colleen Doran. Covers for the series will come from Preacher cover artist Glenn Fabry and Adam Brown, with variant covers for the first issue coming from Dave McKean, David Mack and, as a special variant from Fried Pie Comics, Fabio Moon.
The series continues the ongoing relationship between Gaiman and Oregon publisher Dark Horse, which has, so far, included comic book adaptations of stories including Murder Mysteries, Troll Bridge and How to Talk to Girls at Parties, the latter of which also is being adapted for the screen, with John Cameron Mitchell directing.
American Gods: Shadows launches March 15 in comic book stores and digitally, but before then, enjoy an exclusive preview — including never-before-seen pages — from Dark Horse Comics below.
