Young fans of Star Wars will have a new entry point into the franchise starting next year, with IDW Publishing announcing a new weekly comic book series based on the female-focused Star Wars: Forces of Destiny franchise to bow in January.
The five-issue series will focus on female characters from across the Star Wars franchise’s history: the original trilogy’s Leia, the prequel trilogy’s Padme; Ahsoka and Hera from the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels; and the new trilogy’s Rey, Rose and Paige.
Writing and art for the five issues will come from a collection of women writers and artists, including Delilah S. Dawson, Elsa Charretier, Beth Revis, Jody Houser, Devin Grayson, Elsa Charretier, Arianna Florean, Eva Widermann, Valentina Pinto and Nicoletta Baldari. Charretier will provide variant covers for the series, with additional covers featuring animation cell artwork and original art from Annie Wu.
In a statement from the publisher, IDW senior editor Denton J. Tipton said, “The Forces of Destiny initiative has won over fans with its inspiring tales about these iconic heroes. IDW Publishing couldn’t be more excited to be part of the celebration of these beloved characters.”
