Nick Cassavetes is reverting to romance.
The director of The Notebook is set to helm Have You Seen Her?, based on the script he is co-writing with his oft-collaborator Paul Johansson. Andrew Levitas will produce for Metalwork Pictures, with his Rogue Black label financing. Rob Paris will produce under his Paris Film banner alongside Johansson. Principal photography is scheduled for early 2018.
Have You Seen Her? features an original story idea that Cassavetes has been passionate about writing and directing for more than a decade. It is being described as an international romance with some comedic moments, in the vein of his 2004 adaptation of The Notebook, which launched the careers of Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.
“Nick and I have literally been on the verge of writing this for years,” stated Johansson. “We’re incredibly excited to be partnering with Rob and Andrew who have put us on a very fast path to production.”
Added Paris, “The minute I heard Nick and Paul’s pitch, I knew I had to do whatever I could to help them get it made. It’s sexy and smart, with an exotic, dreamlike setting perfectly suited for an immersive cinematic experience.”
Cassavetes previous credits also include John Q, Alpha Dog, My Sister’s Keeper and The Other Woman. His upcoming directorial projects include a remake of the 1989 film Road House, the real-life drama Kentucky Rhapsody and the dramedy Honeymoon With Harry. He is repped by WME.
Johansson, who is best known for playing Dan Scott on One Tree Hill, has also appeared in Cassavetes’ The Notebook, John Q and Alpha Dog. He is currently in preproduction on the psychological horror film Sacrifice, which he is directing. He is repped by Gilbertson Entertainment.
Levitas is represented by CAA. Law firm Cohen/Gardner reps both Levitas and Paris and brokered the deals.
