TOKYO – The Tokyo International Film Festival’s market, TIFFCOM, has unveiled its 2013 line-up for the CoPro Connection project market, to be presented in cooperation with Korea and France. It will see 20 international co-production projects searching for partners and funding.
This year, 12 countries will be represented in the program, CoPro Connection, including five Japanese and six European projects under the banner of the “ACE Co-production Lab in Japan” with Ateliers du Cinéma Européen, and five Japan-Korea production projects via KOFIC (Korean Film Council).

CoPro Connection will run alongside the TIFFCOM market Oct. 22-24 in Odaiba, on Tokyo Bay.
Projects scheduled for the event include one based on the Hanalei Bay short story by Haruki Murakami, with Japanese director Motoki Ishida and American producer Jason Lau attached.
Other highlights are The Avenging Silence, a story set in Japan from Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive). A “publishing-related cross-media project” from festival favorite Sabu, Ten no Chasuke, will also be represented. The Star Beast, a U.S. animated project based on the sci-fi novel by Robert A. Heinlein will be presented by producer Vince Gerardis.
In other TIFF news, The Sessions, Ben Lewin‘s 2012 Sundance breakout film about a polio sufferer who wants to lose his virginity before he dies, will be presented in a special screening at the festival. Starring John Hawkes and Helen Hunt, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Oscars for the role, The Sessions is a semi-autobiographical story about the life of Mark O’Brien, a journalist with polio who hired a sex surrogate.
TIFF will run from Oct. 17 to 25.
