Sandra Choi only claimed her post as Jimmy Choo creative director a mere 12 weeks ago, but the low-key niece of Jimmy himself has already made her first major creative decision: tapping Nicole Kidman to star in the brand’s fall campaign.
“Nicole is one of the finest actresses in the world, who I knew could convey the empowered glamour of the brand,” Choi said in a statement. “But she is also nuanced and refined; she brings an attitude of defiance, strength, sensuality and elegance.”
The campaign, which the brand says has a “cinematic feel,” will debut in August fashion magazines and was already shot by renowned New York-based photographer Mikael Jansson, whose transformative editorial work for W, Interview and Vogue has featured Penelope Cruz, Carey Mulligan and Rihanna, to name a few. His previous campaign work includes spreads for Dior, Ferragamo and Calvin Klein.
Kidman, who won a Best Actress Oscar for The Hours in 2002, is no stranger to fashion advertising. As a longtime face of Chanel, she most memorably appeared in Baz Luhrmann-shot spots for Chanel No 5 perfume in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
In addition to her latest modeling gig, the actress is starring in Olivier Dahan’s upcoming Grace Kelly biopic and is at the Cannes Film Festival this week, where she’s serving as a member of the fest’s main competition grand jury.
