North Korea Vows Retaliation Over Seth Rogen Movie

North Korea has continued to condemn the upcoming Seth Rogen–James Franco comedy The Interview, which includes a plot to assassinate Kim Jong-un. But this time, the Communist country is calling the film an act of terrorism and saying it will retaliate if the film is released.

“If the U.S. administration connives at and patronizes the screening of the film, it will invite a strong and merciless countermeasure,” a spokesman for North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

The spokesman called the film “the most undisguised terrorism and a war action” and indicated that having a “rogue” filmmaker hurt the dignity of Kim Jong-un was a reckless move on the part of the U.S.

Sony’s The Interview, set to be released in October, stars Franco and Rogen as a talk-show host and his producer who head to North Korea for an exclusive interview with Kim Jong-un but are then tasked by the CIA to kill the dictator.

Kim Myong-chol, executive director of The Centre for North Korea-U.S. Peace, and an unofficial spokesman for Kim Jong Un’s regime, previously criticized The Interview in an interview with The Telegraph last week.

Reps for Rogen and Sony declined to comment on North Korea’s remarks. But Rogen tweeted the following on Wednesday, seemingly in reference to the proposed countermeasure.

Franco’s rep has yet to respond to The Hollywood Reporter’s request for comment.
