The star-studded Ocean’s 8 is riding the subway.
Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow kicked off Monday morning by sharing the first official image from the spinoff, featuring all eight leading ladies: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina.
The film’s first logline also revealed the group’s character names and event setting: “The tide will turn as Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. Her first stop is to assemble the perfect crew: Lou (Cate Blanchett); Nine Ball (Rihanna); Amita (Mindy Kaling); Constance (Awkwafina); Rose (Helena Bonham Carter); Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway); and Tammy (Sarah Paulson).”
Directed by Gary Ross, the female-filled film also stars Damian Lewis and James Corden, and features a slew of cameos (including the original trilogy’s Matt Damon). Ross co-wrote the screenplay with Olivia Milch.
The film is a spinoff of 2001’s crime flick Ocean’s Eleven, which featured an ensemble led by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Damon and Julia Roberts and spawned two sequels: 2004’s Ocean’s Twelve and 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen. The three movies grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide.
Ocean’s 8 hits theaters June 8, 2018. It’s one of a few gender-bending reboots on the way, as Rebel Wilson will head a new Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Channing Tatum will play a merman opposite Jillian Bell in a Splash remake and a new Rocketeer will center on a black female character.
