Olivia Cooke is set to topline Courting Danger, the true story of tennis star turned spy Alice Marble.
When World War II broke out, Marble, a three-time tennis world champion at the time, defied the wishes of her longtime coach and left the sport in order to become an Allied spy, gathering intel on the Nazis that proved instrumental in the Nuremberg trials.
The feature will be adapted from Dale Leatherman’s book Courting Danger: My Adventures in World Class Tennis, Golden Age Hollywood, and High Stakes Spying. Derek Weissbein will pen the screenplay.
Courting Danger is the latest feature from Maven Pictures (The Kids Are Alright, American Honey), with Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray producing and Jenny Halper and Susie Talbot acting as executive producers.
Maven Pictures’ upcoming projects include Fritz Böhm’s Wildling, starring Bel Powley and Liv Tyler, and the 1992 Los Angeles Riots drama Kings, starring Halle Berry and Daniel Craig.
Cooke, whose breakout performance came in the Sundance hit Me, Earl and the Dying Girl, will soon be seen in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.
Weissbein penned the 2016 Black List script Layla, which was acquired by LBI Entertinament. He is repped by APA, Echo Lake and Cheryl Snow.
