The native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, continues to be repped by Vickie Petronio at Vancouver’s Play Management as well as Authentic Talent. Despite having key roles in such shows as Riverdale and HBO’s Ballers, the Canadian actor was not signed to a major American agency.
Goree is garnering attention for portraying Cassius Clay (aka Muhammad Ali) in One Night, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Venice International Film Festival to knock-out reviews and punchy awards conversations. Goree is one of the emotional pillars of the movie, and THR’s review described the actor as giving a “euphoric performance” while also bringing “touching vulnerability.”
The movie, which sees King making her debut as a director, adapts the play by Kemp Powers and tells of an imagined night of Clay meeting Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown after his defeating Sonny Liston in 1964. It will open in theaters Christmas Day for a three-week run before opening globally on Amazon Jan. 15.
Most recently, Goree was one of the stars of USA’s Pearson, a spin-off of Suits. He also appeared in GLOW and The 100. On the film side, he starred in Stephen Hopkins’ Race, a Jesse Owens biopic for which he received a Leo Award for best supporting performance by a male in a motion picture.
