An open casting call is being held March 26 to fill the role of Drew Boley, who falls for Julianne Hough‘s character, Sherrie, in Adam Shankman‘s upcoming adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages.
New Line is looking for a male actor between 18-25 “with a real rock ‘n’ roll singing voice,” the studio announced Friday.
The open casting call is taking place in Saturday, March 26 at Central Casting in Los Angeles (220 South Flower St. Burbank, CA 91502).
Call (818) 725-7425 or go to www.rockofagesmoviecasting.com for more information.
Shooting is set to begin in May.
The announcement is bad news for former American Idol alum Constantine Maroulis, who played the role of on Broadway. He told THR he wanted to be considered for the big screen version. “Obviously, I feel like this is my part and I’ve done all the work and I feel like I’ve done a lot to bring the show to this sort of level of success,” he said. “I’m not 21, but I’m an actor, and I think there’s actors in every movie that are playing different ages and different times and different things all the time, and it’s really about the believability of the performance. So come and see me in the show, read the reviews, read everything, and tell me that this isn’t a part that I was born to play and there you have it.”
As THR previously reported, Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Mary J. Blige are confirmed to star.
Warner Bros Pictures is handling distribution.
