Much fuss was made about Benedict Cumberbatch copping to concealer at the Golden Globes. But while many simply don’t talk about it, they still participate in an extensive beauty routine rulig those of the fairer sex. One thing that’s increasingly more popular (and public?? Man moisturizer. And no, that doesn’t mean formulas specifically designed for a dude.

Michael Keaton’s groomer Diana Schmidtke used La Mer’s luxe moisturizer on the nominee, as well as La Mer’s The Eye Concentrate. “Both young and older men are concerned with the area underneath their eyes,” she says. “It’s a funny thing, because us ladies love a man with crow’s feet, but if you ask a man it’s a sensitive area to them.”
As for the actors’ complexions, Schmidtke and groomer Lauren Kaye Cohen both strive to use as little makeup as possible on their men by using moisturizers that take down shine and mean powder isn’t as necessary. Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Shine is a go-to for Schmidtke, while Cohen opted for Lumiere Oil Absorbing Lotion on Ethan Hawke. “It keeps the skin matte with a little glow. It’s hydrating but not tightening,” she says.

“More and more men are embracing the fact they don’t have to borrow their girlfriend’s eye cream—they can buy their own and feel comfortable doing so.” And while she adds that because of harsh lights it’s easy to tell who is and isn’t hydrated enough, she still prefers imperfect to overly powdered or done. “I love when they look like themselves, when their skin looks like skin. A little scar or spot here or there—those things are sexy.”
