Oscar Isaac is disappointed in the numerous leaks that revealed snippets of information about next year’s Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens more than a year before its eventual release.
“I can’t speak for the cast and crew,” the actor — who plays Poe Dameron in J.J. Abrams’ revival of the space opera franchise — told Yahoo! Movies. “For me I thought, Don’t you want to wait so you can get the real thing?”
Nevertheless, Isaac continued, the leaks did serve one purpose — they made people more excited for what lay ahead. “I don’t think these little leaks necessarily ruined watching the trailer,” he said. “And also, the [plot theories] that get that formulated based on these things — they couldn’t be more far off-base.”
Does that mean that John Boyega and Daisy Ridley aren’t what they seem from the trailer? Isaac isn’t saying, with good reason. Talking about the secrecy that surrounded the movie, he explained to Yahoo! Movies: “They’re incredibly protective, because nowadays, with however many hundreds of blogs and this and that, people are just ravenous for content.”
The script, he said, had to be read in a particular room surrounded by cameras. “There has to be such tight security around it,” Isaac said. “It gets in the way of the process a bit, but it’s understandable.”
The Force Awakens opens Dec. 18, 2015.
