Neil Patrick Harris is about to become a first-time Oscar host, but he already has a knack for keeping awards-show viewers glued to their sets.
The actor, who will host the 88th Oscar ceremony on Feb. 22., was basically born to be an emcee, given his quick wit, willingness to do anything for a joke and song-and-dance talent.
He has put these skills to good use when hosting the Tony Awards ceremony in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013, and the Emmys in 2009 and 2013.

Harris’ impressive ad-libbing skills are on full display in this clip, as he gets a bit too up-close-and-personal with the dog from Annie. It’s unclear how much of this was planned ahead of time, but we’re nonetheless hoping he brushed his teeth immediately afterward.
