On Sunday, Patricia Arquette gave a rousing Oscars acceptance speech, advocating for equal rights for women.
“To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights,” said Arquette. “It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America!”

Twice-nominated director Lucy Walker (for documentary and documentary short) was celebrating Patricia Arquette’s speech, Meryl Streep’s reaction and #AskHerMore. She recalled an interview with The New York Times the year she was nominated for Waste Land. All of the other directors were men, and all were quoted on their films. She spoke about her work but was quoted only on her Oscar dress plans. “I enjoy fashion; I’m happy to talk about it but not to the exclusion of my work,” Walker said.
