‘Selma,’ ‘Still Alice’ and Streep: Oscar Winners Predicted on Twitter

Meryl Streep is a favorite for yet another Oscar on Sunday — according to Twitter.

The social media platform released new Oscars-related data on Thursday morning, noting which nominees users just can’t stop talking about ever since the contenders were announced on Jan. 15.

Though Streep herself doesn’t have a Twitter account, the Into the Woods actress has been mentioned more often then her fellow nominees: Boyhood‘s Patricia Arquette, Birdman‘s Emma Stone, Wild‘s Laura Dern and Keira Knightley of The Imitation Game.

In the other categories, the Internet’s beloved Benedict Cumberbatch of The Imitation Game is the favorite for best actor, over Bradley Cooper, Eddie Redmayne, Michael Keaton and Steve Carell. Still Alice‘s Julianne Moore has been mentioned more often than Felicity Jones, Reese Witherspoon, Marion Cotillard or Rosamund Pike, while Foxcatcher‘s Mark Ruffalo has remained the talk of Twitter, over J.K. Simmons, Edward Norton, Ethan Hawke and Robert Duvall.

In the race for best picture, Selma remains the most discussed title nationwide, over American Sniper, Boyhood, Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Whiplash, The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything (a pick that differs from those on Facebook).

But specifically, The Imitation Game is the most popular film among California-based users; New York tweeters are often talking about Boyhood; New Mexico residents have been discussing Birdman; and Idaho folks are partial to American Sniper. Utah has been chatting about both The Theory of Everything and The Grand Budapest Hotel, more so than any other state.
