Comic book movies may struggle to get best picture nominations, but they are far from Oscar poison for their stars.
This year, Keaton’s Birdman co-stars Edward Norton (The Incredible Hulk) and Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man films) are nominated in the supporting categories. Meanwhile, J. Jonah Jameson himself, J.K. Simmons (the original Spider-Man trilogy), is a supporting actor frontrunner for Whiplash and Bradley Cooper (the voice of Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy) is nominated in the best actor category for American Sniper. Cooper’s soon-to-be Marvel Cinematic Universe cohort Benedict Cumberbatch (2016’s Doctor Strange) is a best actor nominee for The Imitation Game.
