More than 2,660 people have “liked” a Facebook campaign urging all attendees of the 86th Academy Awards to wear a black pin in tribute to Sarah Jones, the camera assistant who was struck and killed by a freight train last week in Georgia.
The campaign has also started gaining traction on Twitter, using hashtag ?#ribbonforsarah. Both efforts got underway sometime Thursday.

Jones, 27, was killed a week ago during preproduction on the Gregg Allman biopic Midnight Rider. She died after being hit by a train while shooting on the tracks.
Production of the biopic, which stars William Hurt and is produced by Unclaimed Freight Productions, was put on hold on Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, an online petition was launched urging the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to add Jones to the Oscars’ “In Memoriam” segment during Sunday’s show. The Academy hasn’t responded publicly.
Thursday night, The Vampire Diaries paid an emotional tribute to Jones by dedicating its latest episode to her memory. Jones worked on the CW series in 2012. A photograph of Jones was shown as a tribute text scrolled across the screen.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
The film community is asking anyone going to, nominated, or involved in any way, the #Oscars to please wear a #ribbonforsarah #filmsafely
