Hong Kong Film Awards-winning Port of Call has been selected to represent Hong Kong in the best foreign-language-film category at the 89th Academy Awards, the Federation of Motion Film Producers Hong Kong announced.
The Aaron Kwok-starrer, about the investigation of the murder of a young female immigrant from Mainland China, took seven awards, including five in the acting categories, at the Hong Kong Film Awards last April. The film was written and directed by Philip Yung, with cinematography by Christopher Doyle (In the Mood for Love), who also won the best cinematography category.
Port of Call was chosen out of a shortlist that included Call of Heroes by director Benny Chan, The Mermaid by Stephen Chow, Weeds on Fire by newcomer Chan Chi-fat, and Heaven in the Dark by Steve Yuen.
