Drama 1001 Grams has been selected by the Norwegian Oscar Committee as the country’s candidate for the 2015 foreign language Oscar.
The film stars Ane Dahl-Torp as a recently divorced, workaholic scientist who goes to a seminar in Paris that’s all about the actual weight of a kilogram. While in the City of Light, Dahl-Torp’s character falls in love with a fellow French scientist, and she begins to measure her own feelings of love, grief and disappoint on the scales of human emotion.
The cast is rounded out by Stein Winge, Per Christian Ellefsen, Laurent Stocker and Hildegun Riise.
1001 Grams is Norwegian director Bent Hamer‘s third submission to the foreign language Oscar category following Kitchen Stories (2003) and O’Horten (2007). The film was also written and produced by Hamer for his own production company, BulBul Film, alongside Slot Machine (France) and Pandora Filmproduktion (Germany).
The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs Sept. 4-14, before being released in Norway on Sept. 26.
