My Dog Killer Still - H 2013
The Slovak Film and Television Academy has chosen Mira Fornay‘s second feature, My Dog Killer, as the central European country’s contender for best foreign language Oscar.
The academy picked the film, which had its world premiere this year at the Rotterdam Film Festival, from a field of 12 films.
My Dog Killer received the Hivos Tiger Award at its first screening in Rotterdam in January.
Since then it has picked up other awards on the festival circuit and is also in the running for the European Film Award.
Fornay’s film centers on 18-year-old Marek — whose best friend is his dog — who one day while hanging out with his racist, hooligan mates discovers a terrible secret about his friend.
The film is produced by Mirafox, Slovakia; CineArt TV, Prague; and Czech public televison, Ceske televise.
World sales are being handled by Berlin boutique shingle m-appeal.
A graduate of both Prague’s FAMU film school and the U.K.’s National Film and Television School, Fornay’s debut, Foxes, premiered in the International Critics’ Week section of the Venice Film Festival in 2009.
