Ouija screenwriters Juliet Snowden and Stiles White have signed on to rewrite the script for Universal’s untitled Bermuda Triangle movie.
The story will center on the mysterious Caribbean area and will be produced by Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark for Bluegrass Films. Universal bought the pitch from scribe team Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (who will also produce) in March 2012.
No details on the plot are being revealed other than it will be centered on the area known as the Devil’s Triangle that stretches between the Florida Straits, Bermuda and Puerto Rico. Over the years, several ships and planes have disappeared while in the area under mysterious circumstances. Theories about paranormal or alien causes have long swirled around these strange disappearances.
Executive vp of production Jon Mone and director of development Jay Polidoro will oversee the project for the studio, while Michael Clear will oversee for Bluegrass.
With Snowden and White onboard, it’s safe to assume that Universal is brewing a scary tale as the duo has had a strong streak of horror and supernatural hits over the past few years. They wrote the script for Universal and Blumhouse’s Ouija (White also directed, and Snowden executive produced), which opened No. 1 in October and went on to earn $102.5 million worldwide on a production budget of less than $5 million. It was the fourth No. 1 opening for the writing team. They previously wrote 2012’s The Possession for Lionsgate, which earned $85.5 million worldwide and the script for 2009’s Knowing, the Summit film starring Liam Hemsworth that earned $183.6 million worldwide.
The duo who is also writing Ghost House for director Sam Raimi and Good Universe. Snowden and White are repped by ICM Partners, Kaplan/Perrone and Jackoway Tyerman.
