Paramount Pictures has acquired Demon Camp: A Soldier’s Exorcism for a film adaptation to be produced by Montecito Pictures. Sarah Cornwell has been tapped to write the script.
The nonfiction book by Jennifer Percy centers on events that are tied to the story told by Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell in his book Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 and the Universal film adapted from that story.

Percy’s memoir tells the tale of machine gunner Caleb Daniels, who, while serving in Afghanistan, lost his best friend and seven members of his unit to a helicopter crash. Daniels’ unit was killed during a rescue mission in an attempt to save Luttrell and the other SEALS, whose story was portrayed in Universal’s Lone Survivor (which became a box office hit after opening theaters in January, earning $124.2 million to date).
Demon Camp, which hit stores on January 14 via Scribner, follows Percy as she finds herself drawn to Daniels’ story. After the vet returns to the U.S. struggling with PTSD and hallucinations of his dead friends, he eventually joins a Christian exorcism camp in Georgia that promises deliverance from the demons of war.
CAA brokered the rights deal on behalf of Percy, with publishing agent PJ Mark of Janklow & Nesbit Associates.
Cornwell, whose debut novel, What I Had Before I Had You, was released by HarperCollins in January, will write the script for Demon Camp. She recently completed a page one rewrite of The Forest for David Goyer and Lava Bear, which will shoot this summer with director Jason Zada. Sarah is repped by CAA and Myman Greenspan.
Demon Camp is Percy’s first book. A journalist originally from Oregon, she has written for The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine and The Atlantic.
