Paramount, Amazon India Strike Licensing Deal

Amazon Prime Video India has inked a streaming deal with Paramount Pictures for such titles as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Star Trek Beyond and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

In addition to these recent releases, the pact also covers the studio’s library franchises, such as Transformers, Indiana Jones, Mission: Impossible, as well as DreamWorks Animation franchises such as Madagascar, Shrek and Kung Fu Panda.

“Our goal is to deliver our content to viewers how and when they want it and Amazon Prime Video offers an exceptional platform for fans to enjoy new and favorite films on demand,” said Paramount TV Licensing & Distribution senior vp regional sales Asia Pacific Jonathan Greenberg.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Paramount deal builds on Amazon Prime Video’s India offerings for Hollywood content following a recent pact with Lionsgate for titles such as La La Land, Deepwater Horizon and Power Rangers, among others.

Since launching in India last year, Amazon and Netflix have been aggressively building up their content libraries for both local and international content, while commissioning original productions.

Amazon has inked streaming pacts with leading Indian studios, such as Dharma Productions, Vishesh Films and T-Series, among others. Similarly, Netflix signed a licensing deal with  Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan’s banner Red Chillies for recent releases, such as Dear Zindagi and catalog titles.
