Paranormal State producer Betsy Schechter is opening her own shingle.
The Emmy-nominated television veteran has launched production company Storyville Entertainment, with the intention of creating content for television, film, branded and multimedia outlets, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Schechter will be president, while Caroline Christopher has been appointed vp development and production. Christopher will be tasked with overseeing Storyville’s development team, creating nonfiction series, specials and branded content. She comes from National Geographic Television where she was director of development.
Storyville has already set up six projects in the unscripted and scripted spaces for cable networks such as A&E, TNT, Animal Planet, History’s H2, MTV International and National Geographic. Additionally, the company is currently in production on a music docuseries for MTV International and is developing a scripted effort with Paranormal Activity producer Jason Blum.
“Storyville serves as a hub for creativity regardless of the genre and platform, everything from nonfiction to scripted to digital to reality,” said Schechter. “What matters most and what will define our projects is that at the core are solid characters and great storytelling with a distinct point of view.”
With two decades of experience, Schechter was an executive producer on A&E’s Paranormal State, the syndicated dating series Shipmates, as well as docs Touched by Elvis and ABC’s Miracle at Tapper Creek.
She previously was co-president at Picture Shack Entertainment, where she was an executive producer on a dozen series. Schechter also helped launch Match.com’s national ad campaigns and helped produce digital branded content for Jeep, Klondike, the Gap and Don Julio.
