Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sophie Kennedy Clark and Jacob Lofland are embarking on a post-apocalyptic journey in the first photos from new indie film North, which recently began principal photography in Detroit.
Director Matt Ogens is helming the film, which follows Lofland and Clark’s characters as they venture into the unknown in the wake of cataclysmic events to find family and a hope for the future.
The futuristic coming-of-age story was co-written by Ogens and Kyle Lierman and will be the first movie scored by former Death Cab for Cutie guitarist and founding member Chris Walla. “I’m thrilled to be creating the soundtrack for North,” Walla said in a statement. “Matt’s story and vision are beautifully complex — so many shades of sorrow and joy, fear and hope, and everything in between. It’s an honor to be tasked with the score. I can’t wait to see it, myself.”

The film also marks the first feature film from multi-platform integrated production company Tool of North America. Tool has worked on commercials for Microsoft, Comcast, Ford, ESPN and HBO, among the hundreds of ads the Santa Monica-based company produces each year. Tool has also worked directly with brands like Airbnb, Netflix and Facebook through its in-house digital team. The firm — which also worked on branded content for Hyundai; music videos for Sigur Ros, Linkin Park and Cold War Kids; and interactive productions for Intel and IBM — has been honored at the Emmys, Webbys, DGA Awards and Oscars, and with Cannes Lions.
“We’re thrilled to be launching our first feature film with North, a story centered on teenagers who tackle mammoth challenges head-on,” Tool’s managing director, live action, Oliver Fuselier said.
Integrated content studio Humble, which represents Ogens for commercials and branded content, is also producing North, which is a Mother + Father production in association with 77 Films.

Tool’s Josh Gold and 77 Films’ Jay Thames are producing, with Tool’s Erich Joiner executive producing.
