The film centers on a punk band headlined by Yelchin’s character who witnesses a murder committed by a group of racist skinheads. They’re trapped in the green room by the gang, who tries to kill them. Poots plays a skinhead whose friend is the murder victim and who joins forces with the band.
Stewart, who most recently appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past reprising his role as Professor Charles Xavier, will play the ruthless leader of the Pacific Northwest-based white supremacist organization.
His other roles this year include voice work in Seth MacFarlane‘s A Million Ways to Die In The West and Cosmos series and the choreographer drama Match, and he will appear in the upcoming indie Christmas comedy Stuck. He is repped by ICM and the U.K.’s Independent.
Rounding out cast of Green Room are Arrested Development‘s Alia Shawkat, Peaky Blinders‘ Joe Cole, Callum Turner, Mark Webber, Kai Lennox, Eric Edelstein and Saulnier’s Blue Ruin star Macon Blair.
The film is produced and financed by young company Broad Green, which entered the scene in the last couple of years with high-profile indie acquisitions including the Andrew Garfield Recession drama 99 Homes and The Intouchables directors’ follow-up Samba.
Broad Green’s Victor Moyer is producing with Filmscience’s Anish Savjani and Neil Kopp. Gabriel and Daniel Hammond of Broad Green and Vincent Savino of Filmscience will be executive producing. The film started shooting this month in Portland.
The Wrap first reported the news of Stewart’s casting.
