The Nantucket Film Festival on Wednesday announced more information about new and returning programs for its upcoming 22nd edition, which is set to run June 21-26.
The fest also added to its list of honorees Patti Cake$ writer-director Geremy Jasper, who will receive the New Voices in Screenwriting Award, presented by Bridget Everett. Previous recipients of the honor include Sian Heder, Leslye Headland, Benh Zeitlin and Lucy Alibar, Michael Arndt, Lake Bell and Mike Cahill. Jasper will be recognized alongside the previously announced Tom McCarthy, Nick Broomfield, David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik at the Screenwriters Tribute on June 23.
New programs at this year’s festival include screenings of upcoming TV series Get Shorty (Epix) and The Keepers (Netflix), followed by conversations with the people behind the shows, as well as “Late Night Letters,” in which handpicked storytellers will read correspondence from notable writers, actors and comedians as well as their own stories. “Late Night Letters” will be hosted by NPR’s Ophira Eisenberg.
Festival organizers also announced the participants in returning programs “All-Star Comedy Roundtable,” “In Their Shoes…,” “Afternoon Tea Talk” and “Morning Coffee With…” The comedy roundtable, hosted by Pete Holmes, will feature Whitney Cummings and Kristen Schaal. McCarthy will participate in the Chris Matthews-moderated “In Their Shoes,” while Tom Cavanagh will host “Morning Coffee With” and Gabourey Sidibe will present a screening of her directorial debut, The Tale of Four, followed by a conversation during the “Afternoon Tea Talk.”
The event also will host a free 30th anniversary screening of La Bamba with live music and an interview with star Esai Morales.
The festival also revealed its short film and virtual reality lineup.
