Ida Sundance Film Still - H 2014
MOSCOW – Pawel Pawlikowski’s Ida won best film at the Polish Eagles film awards, while Life Feels Good took home the largest number of trophies at a ceremony held on Monday.
Ida, a story of a young novitiate nun, set in the 1960s Poland but linked to the times of the Nazi occupation, also brought Pawlikowski the best director award. Star Agata Kulesza won best actress.
Released last October, the movie became a local box office champion and also did well on the international film festival circuit, winning several awards, including the FIPRESCI prize at Toronto and the Grand Prix at the Warsaw International Film Festival. International rights have been sold in more than two dozen countries, including the United States and Canada.
Chce sie zyc (Life Feels Good), which centers on a young man struggling with his disability, collected five Eagles, including the best screenplay award, which went to writer/director Maciej Pieprzyca. The film also won best actor for the movie’s star Dawid Ogrodnik.
Krzysztof Ptak and Wojciech Staro? shared the best cinematography award for their work on Papusza, a biopic about Polish-Gypsy poetess Bronislawa Wajs, directed by Joanna Kos and Krzysztof Krauze. The movie was also awarded best art direction, best costume design and best music.
