Jennifer Garner is getting back into action.
The actress is in talks to star in the Lakeshore flick Peppermint, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Additionally, STXfilms is in talks to distribute the film worldwide, after an arrangement with Lionsgate has fallen through.
Pierre Morel (Taken) is directing from a script by Chad St. John (London Has Fallen). The revenge thriller centers on a young mother who, after her husband and daughter are murdered, finds herself with nothing to lose. Ten years later, she vows to take from her rivals the very life they stole from her, targeting everyone from those who pulled the trigger to the lawyers and cops who let them get away with the crimes.
The project is being described as a “female John Wick,” a reference to the smartly budgeted action franchise that reinvigorated actor Keanu Reeves. Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Richard Wright and Eric Reid are producing.
Peppermint marks a return to the action genre for Garner, who broke through as the star of J.J. Abrams’ series Alias and also played Elektra in Marvel’s Daredevil movie and its spinoff. More recently, she’s been featured in dramas like Dallas Buyers Club and Men, Women & Children, and family movies like Miracles From Heaven and The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Her upcoming films include the surfing drama The Tribes of Palos Verdes. She is repped by CAA and Management 360.
